MATTIA BONETTI

“Troublemaker turned traditionalist,” Mattia Bonetti made his mark on the international design scene with a collection of rustic wrought iron and bronze furniture detractors called “barbaric.” Bonetti has since completed a range of design projects for international clients including Nina Ricci, Pernod Ricard spirits group, and Christian Lacroix. Bonetti’s distinct style infuses traditional motifs and age-old craftsmanship with advancing technologies and up-to-the-minute flair. His 2004 New York exhibition—a bench of torn, patched burlap cast in bronze, a lamp depicting a nude woman holding decidedly phallic fluorescent tubes, a jewelry chest fashioned from a giant gold-leafed egg—proved success hasn’t dampened his creativity nor his flair for unconventional but highly respected design.
